Your car’s thermostat is a valve that opens and closes in accordance with the coolant’s temperature. After your car warms up, the valve opens to release the coolant. The coolant gets warmed by the heating core and then moves through the vents to produce warm air. If the valve does not open, it cannot move the coolant properly, leading to a cold car.

A lack of warm air may signal a lack of coolant in your car. When your car carries a low coolant level, less of it will move toward the heater core. Therefore, you won’t receive the warm air you’ve been counting on. Check the coolant level, and if it’s low, fill it up. The tubes that make up the heater core could be corroded or filled with debris from the road or your car. A service advisor can flush the system and ensure that it works again. You can tell if the heater core is clogged when your vehicle uses too much coolant, the engine continues to overheat, fog clouds your cabin, or you detect a sweet odor in the car.
