Perhaps your car’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System indicator just turned on or you’ve noticed your tires looking different. Either way, it helps to know how to check your tire pressure.

Under-inflated tires need to work harder to push the car along, which decreases fuel economy. Conversely, tires that are over-inflated lose some of the tread that gives them traction. So, it’s important to keep your tires in that Goldilocks zone.
Start with cold tires for a more accurate reading. One of the best times to check tire pressure is first thing in the morning since your car has been sitting overnight.
Remove the cap from the air valve and make sure to hold onto it so it doesn’t get lost.
Insert the tire pressure gauge into the valve, and compare its reading to the recommended tire pressure. Most cars’ tires require about 32 PSI to 35 PSI. You can find the tire pressure number on the sidewall of the tire.
If the reading is lower than the recommendation, you need air in your tires. You can come to our on-site Service Center for air. There are also many gas stations with inflation stations.
Sometimes, the tire pressure reading will be higher than recommended. Too much air pressure can decrease your tires’ effectiveness, so push on the valve until you hear air escape. Test the pressure reading again and repeat the process until you’re in the correct zone.
When you’re all done checking the tire pressure, replace the air valve cap.
In addition to proper inflation levels, there are more ways you can maintain your tires and extend their lifespan.
One way to check in on how your tires are doing is to check their tread. Tread grips the road, and when it’s too worn down, your car can’t operate as safely. To check the tread on your tires, insert a penny in between the grooves, with Lincoln’s head upside-down. If you can still see his whole head, then you need new tires.
Another way to prolong the lifespan of your car’s tires is with regular tire rotations. Rotating your tires keeps them from wearing down unevenly, so they all last a bit longer.
