Daily Monitoring

While you may not use your Defender every day, monitoring specific areas around your car can make a difference. Devices that you use often while driving should be checked. These include lights, horns, turn signals, and wipers.

Also, try out the seat belts to ensure they’re operating as usual. Move the car or peek under it to see if any fluid coats the driveway. Even if you just pop into your car for five minutes or take a quick walk around it, this is a cinch.

Weekly Monitoring

Some other devices may not need such close monitoring, so you could check them off your list once a week. Maybe on a quiet Sunday when you’re lounging around the house.

Mostly, you’ll be checking out the fluid levels for various systems. These include the engine oil and coolant levels, brake fluid, and windshield wiper fluid.

Your tires should be checked for the proper pressure, as well. If you own a tire gauge, you can check it out yourself or use a public place where you can fill up your tires with air. You may also contact our dealership for a quick check-up.

Don’t forget to also check the air conditioner. Flip it on even if it’s in the dead of winter to make sure it is operational.

16,000 Miles

If you didn’t review your owner’s manual, you may not know that your Defender will send out an alert at 16,000 miles. Once your odometer reaches this mile marker or a year passes, you’ll need to take care of these service tasks.

Services include an oil change and tire rotation. These specific areas will be monitored, as well:

• Wiper blades
• Tires
• Parking brake
• Exterior lights
• Drive belts

The exhaust system will also get a once-over to make sure it’s properly operating.

Multiple fluid levels should be checked, as well. These include windshield wipers, power steering, and cooling systems. You should also get the cabin air filter changed and replace the air cleaning element.

32,000 Miles

Mirror your visit to our service center from 16,000 miles, and then add these other areas for service.

Inspect the suspension system, wiring harness, and steering system. Plus, you should check out all the hoses and the entire braking system.

63,000 Miles

At the 63,000-mile marker, you’ll continue to schedule oil changes. Two other oils must be changed, too. They include the rear locking differential oil, which controls the spin of your rear wheels. The transfer box oil switches between gears and needs oil.

The cabin air filter should be replaced as well as the air cleaner element. This ensures that the air flowing through your cabin contains no allergens or debris from the outdoors.

Make sure that the spark plugs get replaced. They ignite the fuel to move your Defender forward.
